Solar Panel Calculator

Estimate the cost, power output, and payback period of a residential solar panel installation.

System Size:

monthlySavings:

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter your usable roof area in square feet.
  2. Select panel wattage (typical panels are 300-450W).
  3. Enter your local peak sun hours per day.
  4. Enter your electricity rate per kWh.
  5. Enter system cost per dollar of installed wattage.

The Formula

Daily Output = System Size (kW) × Peak Sun Hours. Payback = Total Cost / Annual Savings.

Why It Matters

Your 2,000 sq ft home uses $150/month on electricity ($1,800/year). Panels generate 1,500 kWh/year each. For 8,000 kWh/year you need ~6 panels. At $2,500/panel installed: ~$15,000, paying back in 8 years.
