Flooring Quantity Calculator

Never buy the wrong amount of flooring again. This calculator accounts for room dimensions, box coverage, and a built-in waste factor to ensure you have enough material for cuts and mistakes.

Boxes Needed:

Total Area Covered:

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter the room length and width in feet.
  2. Check your flooring box for coverage in square feet (typically 15-25 sq ft per box).
  3. Set waste factor: 10% for straight lay, 15% for diagonal, 20% for complex patterns.
  4. Click Calculate to see total boxes needed.

The Formula

Boxes = (Room Area / Box Coverage) + Waste. Standard waste factor is 10% for straight installation and 15% for diagonal. Complex patterns may require 20% waste.

Why It Matters

You are laying hardwood in a 15x12ft bedroom (180 sq ft). Planks cover 24 sq ft each — you need 8 packs. Add 10% for cuts: order 9 packs. Nail-down installation needs 10d finish nails at ~2 per plank.
