Fence Calculator

Fencing projects often require more materials than expected. This calculator accounts for gate openings, post spacing, and the extra concrete needed for each post hole.

Fence Panels:

Posts Needed:

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter total fence perimeter in feet.
  2. Enter panel width.
  3. Enter post spacing (8 ft standard).
  4. Enter number and width of gates.
  5. Click Calculate.

The Formula

Panels = (Perimeter - Gate Widths) / Panel Width. Posts = Perimeter / Spacing + 1. Concrete: ~1.5 bags per post hole.

Why It Matters

You want a 200ft perimeter fence with 6ft tall wooden panels. Each panel is 8ft wide, so you need 25 panels. Posts every 8ft plus corners: 28 posts total. At $35/panel and $12/post, materials cost ~$1,057.
