Tile Quantity Calculator

Calculate exactly how many tiles and boxes you need for any project — flooring, walls, or backsplash. Built-in waste factor ensures you do not run short mid-project.

Total Tiles Needed:

Area Coverage:

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter the length and width of the area in feet.
  2. Enter the size of the tile in inches (e.g., 12 for 12x12 inch tiles).
  3. Set the waste factor percentage (default 10% for straight lay, 15% for diagonal).
  4. Click Calculate to see total tiles needed.

The Formula

Tiles = (Area in sq ft) / (tile size in sq ft) + Waste. A 12-inch tile = 1 sq ft. Standard waste factor is 10% for straight lay and 15% for diagonal.

Why It Matters

You are tiling a 10x8ft kitchen backsplash (80 sq ft) with 6x6 inch tiles. Each tile covers 0.25 sq ft — you need 320 tiles. Add 10% for cuts: order 352 tiles (about 14 boxes).
