Set the waste factor percentage (default 10% for straight lay, 15% for diagonal).
Click Calculate to see total tiles needed.
The Formula
Tiles = (Area in sq ft) / (tile size in sq ft) + Waste. A 12-inch tile = 1 sq ft. Standard waste factor is 10% for straight lay and 15% for diagonal.
Why It Matters
You are tiling a 10x8ft kitchen backsplash (80 sq ft) with 6x6 inch tiles. Each tile covers 0.25 sq ft — you need 320 tiles. Add 10% for cuts: order 352 tiles (about 14 boxes).
